Home Sweet Home

Born on a plot 1km east of  Harrismith, now Ntabazwe town. Birdhaven. Moved into the suburbs to 95 Stuart Street – home from 1961 to 1973. To learn more about Stuart Street as a street, go to deoudehuizeyard! where Sandra has done a great job using old and new images of the long east-west London Plane tree-shaded, sandstone-guttered street we grew up in.

Inside, in the dining room and the lounge:

In 1974,four Rotarian family homes within a kilometre radius in the metropolis of Apache, Oklahoma.

As a student, the hostel/koshuis in Louisa Street in Doornfontein, Johannesburg, then a lovely communal house in Hillside Road, Parktown.

As a bachelor in Durban, a residential hotel, a lovely communal house in Hunt Road, shared a flat in Botanic Gardens, was a tenant in friend Dave’s first house on The Bluff, and then: My First Home! A shareblock flat in Whittington Court in Marriott Road.

Married, we stayed in that flat for a year, then our first home for around fifteen years, in River Drive Westville. From early-1989 to Dec-2003. That time appeared to go much faster!

. . and have now been in our second home, in Elston Place Westville, the longest of all – since late 2005:
